      Amani Liberia is a sewing and business-training program for women and men in Liberia This location serves a two-fold purpose. First, Amani Liberia gives community members an opportunity to improve skills in stitching, bookkeeping, quality control, management and design. Second, Amani Liberia aims to sow seeds of peace in the hearts of women and men as they grow in community and faith together.

In 1989, pain and loss gripped Liberia as civil conflict broke out. Becky Chinchen, an American missionary working in Liberia was forced to flee with her family a few years after that.

In 2007, Becky, founder of Amani ya Juu, came back to Liberia with her husband to support the rebuilding of the country. Amani ya Juu in Kenya by that time had already provided hundreds of women with a safe space where wounds could heal, life could be revived, and purpose restored. Amani was needed in Liberia.

In 2011, holistic peace was extended to families and communities through the opening of Amani Liberia in the rural community of Yekepa, Liberia. Amani Liberia today celebrates the peace that transcends all of life’s difficulties and circumstances.

What Does Amani Liberia Do?

  • In a country lacking in professional capacity, Amani provides leadership training to emerging leaders.
  • For those who have never had a chance to dream, Amani gives hope to members, allowing them to pursue dreams for their family’s future.
  • In a place where the moral fabric of society has unraveled by civil conflict Amani members engage in daily devotionals, prayer, and peaceful reconciliation.

Amani Liberia has 10 members who are learning a new way of life, a life built on trust, value and respect for one another. After years of exploitation by warring rebels and warlords people are learning to trust and hope again. We have no doubt that Amani Liberia will have a wide spread influence across the country in years to come as her light of Truth and Peace shines brightly.
